I just finished the second edit of Dead Prey. With the help of Alexis Powers and her editing pencil, I probably only have 3 or 4 more to go before my other editor sees it. I am moving along.
I had to change the name of one of the cartels in my new book. If Los Zetas took offense, I'd be gone. Writing scared is new for me.
Nearly finished with second edit. Yes, it is better. I have Alexis Powers doing a third edit. It always helps to have another set of eyes looking. August still looking good.
I'm into the second edit. I'm focusing on one character to give him a unique voice. Alexis continues to help me with editing. Thank you Lexi.
I finished the first edit on Dead Prey. more edits to come. I'm actually enjoying this. I did get some help on my first 2 chapters from Alexis Powers. Thanks. Steve is working on the cover now.
I'm starting the climax scene in Dead Prey. The sequestration has improved my productivity. Should have the first draft done by the end of June. It's taken some twists not imagined when I started writing it. But that's what usually happens. Makes writing fun.
I use a Netti pot to clear my sinuses then lay down with a heating pad over my face and a zinc lozenge in my mouth. Deep breathing bring the heated air into your lungs. Viruses doesn't like that. This works really well with colds. Should work with COVID 19.
With all the hoopla, I find this sage information. The paragraph at the bottom is mine, AND IT WORKS WITH VIRUSES.
Advise from a retired respiratory nurse.
CORONA Common Sense
Since they are calling on Respiratory therapist to help fight the Corona virus, and I am a retired one, too old to work in a hospital setting. I'm gonna share some common sense wisdom with those that have the virus and trying to stay home. If my advice is followed as given you will improve your chances of not ending up in the hospital on a ventilator. This applies to the otherwise generally healthy population, so use discretion. 1. Only high temperatures kill a virus, so let your fever run high. Tylenol, Advil. Motrin, Ibuprofen etc. will bring your fever down allowing the virus to live longer. They are saying that ibuprophen, advil etc will actually exacerbate the virus. Use common sense and don't let fever go over 103 or 104 if you got the guts. If it gets higher than that take your tylenol, not ibuprophen or advil to keep it regulated. It helps to keep house warm and cover up with blankets so body does not have to work so hard to generate the heat. It usually takes about 3 days of this to break the fever. 2. The body is going to dehydrate with the elevated temperature so you must rehydrate yourself regulaly, whether you like it or not. Gatorade with real sugar, or pedialyte with real sugar for kids, works well. Why the sugar? Sugar will give your body back the energy it is using up to create the fever. The electrolytes and fluid you are losing will also be replenished by the Gatorade. If you don't do this and end up in the hospital they will start an IV and give you D5W (sugar water) and Normal Saline to replenish electrolytes. Gatorade is much cheaper, pain free, and comes in an assortment of flavors 3. You must keep your lungs moist. Best done by taking long steamy showers on a regular basis, if your wheezing or congested use a real minty toothpaste and brush your teeth while taking the steamy shower and deep breath through your mouth. This will provide some bronchial dialation and help loosen the phlegm. Force your self to cough into a wet wash cloth pressed firmly over your mouth and nose, which will cause greater pressure in your lungs forcing them to expand more and break loose more of the congestion. 4. Eat healthy and regularly. Gotta keep your strength up. 5. Once the fever breaks, start moving around to get the body back in shape and blood circulating. 6. Deep breath on a regular basis, even when it hurts. If you don't it becomes easy to develope pneumonia. Pursed lip breathing really helps. That's breathing in deep and slow then exhaling through tight lips as if your blowing out a candle, blow until you have completely emptied your lungs and you will be able to breath in an even deeper breath. This helps keep lungs expanded as well as increase your oxygen level. 7. Remember that every medication you take is merely relieving the symptoms, not making you well. 8. If your still dying go to ER.
I've been doing these things for myself and my family for over 40 years and kept them out of the hospital, all are healthy and still living today.
Thank you all for sharing. We gotta help one another.
Okay, it was really "Feed your Head," but keep fits better

What interesting times we are in. (Yes, that’s an old Chinese curse). The number of nut jobs that are emerging amazes me. Everything from this is a bio attack from China to it’s a propaganda tool are ideas floating around. The reality seems to be whatever you want. The professionals probably have it right. In a year it will be a flu we get or not. It will probably mutate so that a vaccine is difficult to create. In the documentary “Pandemic” one group was working on a virus vaccine that would knock out a large spread of viruses (is that viruii?). In my book Dead Reckoning I brought up the idea that the new warfare is not about taking lives or property. It’s about attacking the economy of your enemy. In that book, it was a combination of a bio attack and a cyber attack that destroyed the US economy. Ronald Reagan did to the USSR when he got them to spend themselves into oblivion. So what’s a 2 trillion dollar debt going to do to the US? There is no doubt that support has to be given to people who have lost their livelihood because of the total loss of commerce in areas due to regulations. The people criticizing because money goes to businesses are daft. What do you do with a $1000 and all the stores are closed? That cabbage isn’t edible.
Hoarding is a panic cry that we’re going to run out of everything. If business doesn’t start, maybe. The exploding sales of guns and ammo have sure quieted the anti gun people. It’s what happens when the security and ability of law enforcement to maintain law and order is doubted. Instead of visions of sugarplums dancing in their heads, it roving gangs of looters and murders. I can’t see it, but the announcement that police would respond to only dire circumstances didn’t help. What’s dire?
So for me this shut-in is getting writing done. I can’t believe how quiet it is. Reminds me of when I was growing up and lived in the country. I’m still living in the same house, but it’s no longer country. It’s also similar to the days following 911. No planes flying, not many people about. The next book in the dead series, Dead Prey, is progressing, and as with previous books, the research into the topics has proven enlightening and scary. (Why do I do that to myself? Guess namby-pamby isn’t my style). Also twisting the norm is one of my mainstays.
The loss of business at the Tucson Festival of Books hurt me and a lot of other people. I can only hope that next year is better. Sports is a disaster. One friend of mine suggested that stadiums sell only 1/3 of the seats available so people can distance. What about the players? Picture footballers with poles to keep away from each other. Most contact sports will have a great evolution to go through, but they did after the emergence of HIV and survived.
As Jefferson Airplane said in the song White Rabbit, “Keep your head, keep your head.”
I am so BUMMED. The Tucson Festival of Books was cancelled over fears of the Coronavirus. Never mind that thousands die in the US every year from the flu. That doesn't sell papers or attract viewers. NO, this is a CRISIS! The press has blown this into a world disaster. The real danger is to the economy. That is where everybody will suffer. We're looking at a major effect on every American. Trump is right when he minimizes it. I don't agree with him on a lot of things but he's nailed this one.
This reminds me of Michael Crichton's book, State of Fear. It is fear that drives us to give up control of our lives to someone else on the hope of security. BAH That doesn't work.
I touched on this in my book Dead Reckoning, but in that case, it was a real danger from one of the most lethal pathogens the world has ever seen, SMALLPOX. The Russians and the United States tried to weaponize it, but it was too dangerous. (Russia still maintains a repository of weaponized smallpox at Koltsovo .) Now, few people have immunity. Those vaccinated more than ten years ago are again unprotected. That's most of us because it was declared destroyed. Not so.
